ISDN
Backup Application Overview
The Databand system
establishes an ISDN backup or alternate "leased
line" at speeds from 64kbps
to a full 2.048Mbps in just a few
seconds with the objective of maintaining
user-sessions, assisting with SLAs
(Service Level Agreements) and enhancing
customer relationships and loyalty.
This resilience
appeals to a number of different
organisations.
1. Our end-user
customers typically install Databand
backup units to improve network resilience
of their important national and/or
international circuits. Failure of
circuits can have very costly or
catastrophic consequences and a low-cost
reliable backup system can be viewed
as a prudent insurance against the
day when a circuit is lost.
It may also be
because a router backup solution
may take too long to establish, take
too much processing overhead, has
no ISDN testing facility or the router
management information when on backup
is deficient and backup call costs
escalate.
2. Patapsco's carrier
customers generally provide ISDN
backup to leased lines, Frame Relay,
TETRA mobile and other services.
This may or may not involve equipment
at a PoP or exchange site. These
enhanced services are generally offered
to customers at an additional cost.

The
backup systems allow carriers to
meet or exceed their Service Level
Agreements (SLAs), make network failures
appear so short to customer equipment
and users that they are unaware of
any failure at all, improves their
visibility and diagnostic capabilities
to the customer site and generally
improve customer relationships and
loyalty.
3. Suppliers of
TETRA networks where resilience if
particularly critical will also find
this backup application relevant.
4. Some companies
have disaster backup sites and accessing
these sites from remote locations
can present challenging problems.
Patapsco's ISDN backup products can
dial the main site or the alternate
site, automatically or under manual
control. This makes communications
between remote locations and any
processing site or centre fast, simple,
reliable and easy to test.

Info area:
All products
inter-work, most are remotely upgradeable
via ISDN; all establish the ISDN
backup path extremely quickly to
maintain user-sessions; all are relay-protected;
all are managed by a common Manager
Carrier-grade platform, DbManager
and all provide excellent levels
of dial-in security.
Thousands of the
Databand ISDN backup products are
installed in Carrier and Corporate
networks across the world. There
is no more comprehensive, robust,
fast and cost-effective solution.
