Overview

The Liberator “D” (Distributed) is a non-blocking ISDN PRI cross-connect switch, ISDN PRI sharer or splitter with advanced routing and conversion options, including conversion between T1 and E1.

As well as 4 PRI ISDN ports, each element benefits from a 4-port on-board Ethernet switch. This means multiple units can be connected via their Ethernet ports and dedicated cables to build a large non-blocking splitter/switch/converter.

The architecture of the Liberator “D” means PRI ports can be distributed around a building, delivering and sharing ports where they are needed and extending PRIs to improve availability.

The accurate recovery of clocks across the Ethernet between PacketBand retains the synchronisation between those Liberators with a network source clock, and those without. This unique feature, together with an automatic switch-over between clock sources should any fail, gives complete flexibility of what types of ports are configured in each unit and a very resilient service.

If BRI ports are needed, use the Liberator “S” on one or more of the PRI ports to deliver BRI interfaces, both NT and TE.

The PRI ports themselves can be connected to the network or to local devices and support ETSI E1 PRI and ANSI T1 PRI (as well as some other variants such as the Hong Kong PRI).

Easy to configure via Patapsco’s intuitive GUI-based DbManager, the products has many routing and number manipulation capabilities as well as the ability to distribute and recover source clocks across the Ethernet.

In the diagram above, four network PRI ports are being shared by two voice recognition units and a PABX, which between them have 8 PRIs.

In-coming calls can be routed by Liberator “D” to any of the local based on number dialed, CLI or port availability. All 3 local units can place out-going calls through any of the Liberators with capacity. Bandwidth/ISDN timeslots can be pre-assigned to devices or used on “first-come” basis.

All 3 Liberators can be located in different parts of the building, if required, using standard CAT5 cabling. They could be in the same racks as the end equipment.

The diagram below shows the addition of a Liberator “S” to deliver BRIs for videoconferencing from a PRI.
