Bri ISDN Extension

Patapsco’s new Liberator “D” provides ISDN extender or extension capabilities across a building or site using standard CAT5 twisted-pair cabling.

ISDN circuits can only be driven short distances, particularly 4-wire BRI “S/T” or S0 interfaces. This can cause problems with getting service across buildings, campuses or bases etc.

The Liberator “D” (distributed) means ISDN services can be located where they are needed, just by using a single standard CAT5 twisted-pair cable. A single cable can be used for 1 BRI, 4 BRIs, 8 BRIs or 4 PRIs! The key to the technology is being able to pass and recover clocks across the network so all interfaces are locked or synchronised to the network.

In its simplest form, Liberator “D” can extend a single ISDN BRI across a site:

In the diagram below, 2 network PRIs are shared between three locations. The ISDN services look like carrier-delivered ISDN and can transport any type of data as clear/transparent ISDN “B” channels are presented. As well as the ability to extend ISDN over long distances, the Liberator “D” has sophisticated switching and routing capabilities

Information on the flexible Liberator “D” can be found in the Product area of this site
