Products - DataBand Summary Page - DataBand MUX 32

The DataBand-MUX-32 is a resilient 8/16/32 port E1 T1 mux or stand-alone cross-connect switch.

It is an ideal replacement for legacy TDM switches which can no longer be supported (for example the GPT or Marconi P-Switch).

As a mux it inter-works with the smaller MUX-4 and during 2009 it will also be enhanced to provide multiple V.35 and/or X.21 ports.

High reliability E1/T1 mux or cross-connect switch.

Supports 8, 16, 24 or 32 E1/T1 interfaces. Dual load-sharing PSUs. Ability to inter-link “MUX-32” units to build a larger non-blocking single switch.

1. Overview
The DataBand models detailed within this document support up to 32 E1/T1 interfaces via two card types, either 8-port or 16-port cards.

The ports on the 8-port card have Telecoms Approvals for direct connection to a carrier network. The ports on the 16-port cards are for connecting to local devices only.

When mixing an 8-port and a 16-port card the 8-port is always in the lower position. See the Ordering Information PDF for details.

The unit will connect any port to any port and any timeslot to any time slot without constraint, giving full cross-connectivity between all ports, both local and network channels.

Interfaces are RJ45 but can be user-configured as either 120Ohm or 75Ohm on a per-port basis. Patapsco have available an RJ45 to BNC conversion cable.

As standard DataBand “MUX-32” can be user configured with either all E1 or all T1 interfaces. Purchasing the optional E1 T1 conversion pack means both E1 and T1 can be supported on the same unit and selected on a per-port basis.

An 8-port and a 16-port card for N*64Kbps V.35 and X.21 ports will be available Q4 ‘09. The chassis will support up to 32 V.35/X.21 ports or 16 E1/T1 and 16 V.35/X.21.

The intuitive DbLite GUI (supplied) enables fast and simple configuration and a number of full DbManager packages provide enhanced features and visibility plus control of multiple units.

The Mux-32 can inter-work and deliver multiple low-speed or fractional E1/T1 circuits between locations. V35/X.21 available Q4 ‘09.
See the MediaBand-32 if you need to inter-connect across fibre.

2. Operation
  2.1 Routing
A simple to use GUI (Graphical User Interface) makes configuring and routing timeslots fast and easy, with an excellent overall view of interconnects. Any timeslot can be routed to any other (timeslots zero have the usual constraints and can be passed transparently or generated locally). DataBand is completely transparent to all data and signaling

2.2 Routing and Summary Windows
A choice of easy to understand summary windows display the routing configurations. These include a complete display of all routing profiles and a summary of active connections.

2.3 Diagnostics
DataBand provides excellent diagnostic and debug tools including
loops on any port.

2.4 Configuration/Management
DataBand is configured and managed by Patapsco’s DbManager - see separate Tech Sheets.
DbManager is an intuitive GUI which supports multiple real-time workstations and is the common platform for all Patapsco products. Versions are available which can be configured for a single DataBand or simultaneously manage/monitor many.
Configuration/management sessions can be established remotely or locally through the unit’s serial port or optional Ethernet port.
SNMP Traps & Alarms are optionally supported.

2.5 E1 to T1 Conversion
DataBand can optionally convert between E1 and T1 with necessary
support for A-Law to μ-Law encoding conversion for voice traffic.
3. General
  3.1 Clocking
Software-selectable clock source, extracting clock and locking to any E1/T1 port or a very high quality 0.15ppm internal clock.
Clocking hierarchy with auto-switchover between clocks with no user impact. Auto recovery to higher priority clocks when they become available.

3.2 Real-Time Clock
Internal battery-backed real-time clock for Event Log time-stamps and debugging purposes.

3.3 Events
Up to 5000 Events are held within the DataBand in NV RAM on a FIFO basis.
Events can be reported automatically to the DbManager via the local serial port or the optional Ethernet interface.
This can be on a timed schedule or when the Event Log reaches 90%. Once Events are successfully reported to the DbManager the
log is cleared. DbManager can also access the logs and download them when required. DbManager writes all Events and Alarms to a flat .csv file in real-time and this file can be manipulated by external tools to format and extract information.

3.4 Approvals
The DataBand “MUX-32” benefits from a wide range of Safety and Emissions approvals and the 8-port card also has Telecoms Approvals for direct connection to carrier leased lines/networks.
All Patapsco equipment is RoHS compliant without having to resort to the use of temporary “Exemptions”.

3.5 Configuration
Held in non-volatile RAM (retained during power off) and downloadable to/from the DbManager. Configuration files can be
saved to a file on a PC.

3.6 Software
New versions of software can be remotely uploaded to DataBand via the DbManager. This is loaded to an off-line sector of FLASH and a confirmation check-sum given. The operator can switch software banks at any time and revert to the original software at any time. If the DataBand is unable to run from the new software, it will revert to the original.
