| Why does the PB-TDM differ from a VoIP gateway? |
|
 |
- Gateways are primarily targeted at voice applications where slips are acceptable, as is the latency added by compression. PB-TDM delivers a high-quality clock-recovered service between known end-points
- The compression can reduce the amount of network capacity (but not necessarily by as much as you may think ) using standard compression algorithms in VoIP but in many applications PB-TDM can use less capacity between two locations yet provide higher quality voice and lower latency.
- PB-TDM works between known locations by linking existing PABXs so the solution is a “drop-in” without having to change current PBXs etc.
- But, PB-TDM does work between know locations and will not communicate with, for example, a VoIP telephone on the internet.
