Q1.What different models are available in the MediaBand range?
MediaBand is available in three distinct hardware versions. The MediaBand-1 platform offers one E1/T1, a single SFP cage (SFP not included) for the fibre and a single FE 10/100/Gig Ethernet ports for management, daisy chaining and passing Ethernet traffic over the fibre link. MediaBand-4 supports either 2 or 4 E1/T1 interfaces with a single SFP cage (SFP not included) for the fibre and two FE 10/100/Gig Ethernet ports for management, daisy chaining and passing Ethernet traffic over the fibre link. The larger 2/4 port MediaBand can be supplied with 2 ports and the option to field upgrade to an additional 2 ports at a later time. MediaBand -VX supports a single V.11 or V.35 a single SFP cage (SFP not included) for the fibre and a single FE 10/100/Gig Ethernet port for management, daisy chaining and passing Ethernet traffic over the fibre link. Back to top.
Q2. What interfaces/options are available on the unit?
MediaBand-1 and MediaBand-4 support ETSI E1 circuits according to the G.703 standards and ANSI T1 1.544Mbps circuits. The data path over the fibre link is completely transparent to user traffic. MediaBand will support both framed and unframed CPE. The VX versions support V.11 on a 15 way D connector and V.35 on an MRAC 37 or DB25 connector. Back to top.
Q3. What upgrade paths are available
The MediaBand 2 E1/T1 device can be upgraded to support 4 E1/T1 interfaces. Back to top.
Q4. How easy is the MediaBand to configure and manage?
MediaBand is managed using the Patapsco DbManager application. The manager provides a full GUI interface for configuration and management. A free DbLite is shipped with each order, other fully networked manager options are available, please contact Patapsco for details. Back to top.
Q5. What management statistics does the MediaBand offer?
MediaBand provides full management of the E1/T1 over fibre link. Statistics include: E1/T1 port failures/recoveries, number of lost frames, Fibre port failures/recoveries performance stats for the Fibre link. Events and Alarms are stored in NVRAM and can be interrogated by the DbManager application. Back to top.
Q6. How many E1/T1 X.21/V.35 interfaces can each MediaBand unit support?
A single MediaBand unit will support 1-4 E1/T1 ports or a single X.21 or V.35 port. Back to top.
Q7. What Fibre interfaces are available?
MediaBand will support both Singlemode and Multimode SFP modules. Please contact Patapsco for the latest list of approved SFP modules. Back to top.
Q8. Are the SFP modules included?
No, SFP modules must be provided separately. Back to top.
Q9. Can I run Ethernet services over the fibre in conjunction with the E1?
Yes, by using the additional 10/100/Gig Ethernet ports it is possible to pass Ethernet/IP traffic across the fibre link simultaneously with the E1/T1/V11/V35 traffic. Back to top.
Q10. How do I manage the MediaBand?
MediaBand is managed using the Patapsco DbManager application. This application can be connected to the MediaBand via a physical command port (RS232) connection or via IP using one of the 10/100/Gig Ethernet ports. Back to top.
Q11. Can I present interface alarms to a central management system?
Yes, the full DbManager applications provide a full management collection interface. Alarms can trigger visual and audible warnings. Back to top.
Q12. Can the device be mounted in standard 19 inch racks?
Yes. It is possible to mount two of the MediaBand-1 or VX units in single 1U slot or one MediaBand-4. Please specify the rack mounting requirements at procurement time. Back to top.
